From Larry's Desk....
September 29, 2009
If you look at my desk any-time recently you would swear I like clutter and mess- just the opposite is true- by the way, I prefer things straightened- in order…I mean I took a look at my desk the other day and usually when I see all that stuff-almost in piles- I frantically dig in- get it all cleaned up, put away.

But before I dug in-I looked a little closer at it…Here’s the top layer: (I don’t have the guts to dig deep yet)…4 packages of pictures of "God", 3 “burned” cds, a pro-quality video camera, 3 bags of food for the food pantry, a bag of kids clothes for the baby furniture exchange, a brand spankin’ new telephone, a bunch of 9-volt batteries (for the new headset by the way), 2 bibles, a rolodex (they are still around), my business cards, a number of outside business cards, 3 rolls of tape, 3 binders, 8 candlabra style light bulbs, a robe, a couple of stoles, a handmade quilty thing, information about the yard sale, information about the comedy night, some proposals for the Christmas music, new baptism certificates, new wedding certificates, new member certificates and a half-eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich--problem is-I havent eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my office since back in March….never mind.

And I started getting a bit frustrated about the mess- I mean I clean this up every so often- how can it keep getting this way? And it came to me…I should be enjoying this mess. It means Oakwood is doing the work its called to do. It means we are being “the church”, it means we are feeding the hungry, it means we are clothing the naked, it means we are reaching out to the community, it means we are taking care of what God has given us, it means we are growing, it means we are blessed. Ya’ll have a good day, I'm gonna go finish that sandwich…
